A typical 6×6 pre-owned workstation from a premium manufacturer is a useful starting point at $800–$1,200 for the furniture. To plan the full project, also allow for seating, delivery, installation, electrical and data work, and tax.
Furniture-only planning range
$800–$1,200
per typical 6×6 pre-owned workstation
Your layout, selected components, condition, and available inventory determine the actual quote.
What this range means
Use it to start a conversation about your budget. It is not a delivered-and-installed price.
Panels, surfaces, storage, and furniture power components vary by configuration. Chairs and project services should be identified separately in your quote.
Start with your workstation count
These simple allowances apply the $800–$1,200 furniture range to different quantities. They are for typical 6×6 pre-owned configurations.
| Workstations | Planning allowance |
|---|---|
| 6 | $4,800–$7,200 |
| 10 | $8,000–$12,000 |
| 20 | $16,000–$24,000 |
These figures are not quantity-discount offers. A shared layout, specific inventory, or different package can produce a quote above or below this range.
Example 1 · Local delivery and installation
Six workstations with chairs: $9,273 before tax
This 2026 example paired six Steelcase Answer 6×6 stations in a shared cluster with six used task chairs. The stations included worksurfaces, two storage pedestals per station, and an open shelf.
| Item | Project cost |
|---|---|
| Six workstations at $889 each | $5,334 |
| Six used task chairs at $255 each | $1,530 |
| Furniture power base feed | $189 |
| Local delivery | $195 |
| Installation | $2,025 |
| Total before tax | $9,273 |
$1,545.50 per workstation position included the furniture, chairs, base feed, delivery, and installation listed above.
Electrical hookup and data cabling were excluded. The installation scope also excluded stair carry and moving other furniture or personal items.
This is one project, not a standard installed package or a quote for your office. Do not multiply its installation charge across a different job; layout, site conditions, and labor requirements change the price.
Example 2 · Freight and a local installer
Ten workstations in Kentucky: a $15,921 historical budget
A 2026 project in Lexington used ten Global Evolve 7×7 stations with glass accents, worksurfaces, credenzas, and mobile storage. The furniture and freight were invoiced by PSU; a local installation company was designated to bill the customer directly.
How this example was built: $11,621 in invoiced furniture, power feed, and freight, plus a $4,300 installation quote for ten stations.
| Item | Documented amount |
|---|---|
| Ten workstations at $995 each | $9,950 |
| Furniture power base feed | $189 |
| Palletized dock-to-dock freight | $1,482 |
| Local installation quote for ten stations | $4,300 |
| Combined historical budget before tax | $15,921 |
Freight and installation are separate budget items. Confirm who receives the shipment, how it reaches the office, what the installer includes, and who bills for each service.
The $4,300 is a documented historical installer quote, not a verified final paid installation amount. Current freight and installation require a new project-specific quote. Chairs, electrical hookup, data work, and applicable tax are not included in this example.
The two examples have different workstation sizes, quantities, and inclusions. They illustrate how a budget is assembled; they are not a like-for-like comparison of local and out-of-town pricing.
Why the same size cubicle can cost more
Layout and components
- Shared panels: clusters and separate rows need different panel quantities.
- Privacy and storage: panel height, glass, shelves, and filing affect the package.
- Power and upgrades: feeds, sit-to-stand options, and accessories add to the scope.
Inventory and preparation
- Matching quantities: available brands, sizes, and finishes influence the options.
- Condition: compare the actual preparation and finish work included.
- Existing furniture: matching or reusing components requires a compatibility check.
In one 2026 PSU project, 6×6 Knoll Dividends stations were $835 each in a shared cluster and $1,169 each in a row configuration. The nominal footprint was the same; the configuration differed.

Allow for delivery and getting the space ready
Within 40 miles of Tucker, Georgia, when combined with installation services. Installation is quoted separately. Other delivery arrangements and destinations require a project-specific quote.
Before comparing totals, check that each proposal covers the same work:
- Delivery or freight: destination, unloading access, and any dock or receiving requirements.
- Installation: assembly, building access, working hours, stairs, and whether the space will be clear and ready.
- Electrical and data: furniture power parts, the building connection, and cabling are different responsibilities.
- Removal or relocation: identify furniture that needs to be moved, dismantled, or removed.
- Additional project services and tax: confirm any design, coordination, or other project fees, plus applicable tax.
For projects outside the local area, ask for freight and installation to be itemized and confirm who provides and bills for each service.
Ways to keep the budget under control
- Plan the layout before choosing a package. A measured floor plan helps identify what fits and where panels can be shared.
- Separate essentials from preferences. Set priorities for privacy, storage, power, and finishes.
- Consider available inventory. Flexibility on brand or finish can widen your options.
- Include furniture you want to keep. Photos and product labels help us assess whether it can work with the new layout.
- Compare the complete scope. A lower furniture price can come with additional delivery or installation costs.
A few common budget questions
Does “powered” include an electrician?
No. A furniture package may include internal power components, but the building hookup and data cabling are separate work. Confirm the base feed, connection requirements, and responsible contractor in your proposal.
Are lower-cost configurations available?
Some are. For example, a 2026 order included 5×5 pre-owned Herman Miller AO2 stations positioned along a wall at $499 each. Those stations were non-powered and used a specific layout with a worksurface and one storage pedestal. That is a historical example, not a price for every freestanding cubicle or a current stock promise.
How is pre-owned furniture prepared?
Before an order leaves our building, we inspect it, clean the panels and parts, touch up paint as needed, and replace broken parts. Pre-owned furniture can retain normal signs of wear. See our systems-furniture warranty for coverage and exclusions.
